Factors Which Influence Career Choices

November 4, 2012 by Dr. Amarendra Alapati

As the old saying goes, “The Choices makes the man” life is full of choices. In our academic life for instance, a person is given the choice about which career to take up, normally during their college years. With so many options to choose from, a person might become confused and overwhelmed.

Education influences Career Choices

many factors influence career choicesEducation, in general, is important in equipping a person to fulfill the dreams that they have. It is the thing which will mold a person to become successful one day. Choosing the right career will determine the future that a person might have. Basically, the journey of making a choice about a professional career starts with career development.

What is Career Development?

Career development is generally a long and engaging process in choosing the right option amongst the many employment opportunities available to a person. People who undertake career development are actually influenced by a lot of factors. It is the combination of educational, economic, physical, social as well as psychological factors that can influence the nature of work during the life of an individual. Each person will experience some, or even all, of these influential factors as they go through the process of deciding which career option to choose. Sit, Stay, Good Dog: Become a Certified Dog Trainer

November 3, 2012 by Dr. Amarendra Alapati

Certified Dog Trainer-

If you love dogs and spending lots of time training them, you might consider a career as a dog trainer. Did you know that as a dog trainer, you’ll need to have lots of patience and understanding with people, too? Dog trainers actually spend most of their time teaching people how to train and manage their own pets, so you’ll have to be a people person, as well. With the proper training and knowledge, you can choose one of the many diverse careers in the dog training area, from dog show preparation to military dog training to puppy kindergarten.

What do certified dog trainers do?

Certified Dog trainers are professionals who have learned methods for correcting canine behavior. Not all abide by the same techniques, but the end game tends to be the same – they want to increase your dog’s good habits while decreasing behavior that is less desirable. Some use treats to reinforce desired actions, others mark good behavior through clicks that are associated with praise or food, and others may even [Read more…] about Sit, Stay, Good Dog: Become a Certified Dog Trainer

Day Traders: American Stereotypes that Inspire Stupidity

October 22, 2012 by Allanah Canalija

There’s a whole lot of hubbub in the media about the outside world’s perceptions of America. There’s a narrative that Americans are portrayed as greedy, arrogant and nosey, and a great fuss is made over public opinion. It is true that all eyes are on America, but that is because we produce so much media and we broadcast our ideas all over the world. That opens the US up to a lot more criticism, but foreign policy is not a matter of popularity contests. For every Parisian who has a strong opinion about the American health care system, there are handfuls of people in the developing world that are taking a crack at success inspired by our free market capitalism and what they learn from our cultural output. Sometimes it doesn’t work out so well.

High Stakes Gamblers: Day Traders

day trader - learning NYSEPicture it! Maybe someone Michael Douglas-esque, sitting poolside drinking a mojito. He’s tan. He has designer sunglasses. Suddenly he’s roused from his rest by his smartphone beeping. It’s not just any beep. It’s the “Good One.” Sitting up quickly–almost startled–he peeks from under his shades eagerly to confirm. He turns to the stranger across from him and says, “You need a drink buddy? I just made another half-million! It’s so good to be a day trader!”

There’s nothing playful about “playing the stock market.” Those bets placed are best educated bets, and the “game” is rigged to respond to real world events! No one should dare attempt to make a career out of trading on the stock market with only the resume of a card shark. However, our films and media which portray the sun-kissed, jet-setting trader, encourage the idea that the American Dream is to make money and do nothing. In 2004, a Nigerian man on trial for fleecing an elderly UK couple with a rarely effective email scam reportedly defended his actions by simply stating, “I wanted to get rich with computers like a powerful New York day trader.”

Cut Throats and Bootleggers

There’s a much more sinister scenario as well. [Read more…] about Day Traders: American Stereotypes that Inspire Stupidity

How to Land a Temp to Permanent Job

October 1, 2012 by Guest Contributor

A temp job helps you make money and gain experience.  Such work can also help you build a solid resume.  If you perform well in your temp work, the employer may hire you or consider you for a future permanent position.

What if the temp job requires you to work in different departments of the company?

Temp to permanent jobGreat, you have even brighter temp to permanent job prospects.  It’s because you can get hands-on experience in diverse areas and the opportunity to work for (and thus impress) several different managers who may have the need and authority to hire someone.

With a temp job, you’ll develop references to give to another employer, if the temp-to-perm avenue doesn’t work out.  Further as a person with skill and experience, you will be the first choice for the temp agency for future temp work.

Tips to Landing a Temp to Permanent Job

1) Begin your Work on Time:  Punctuality gives you a high grade on the temp score card.  If for some reason, however, you are unavoidably late to work:  Did you miss the train? Or, are you stuck in a traffic jam?  Call your temp agency and the company and inform them of your situation.  Of course, you should also tell them what time you will make it to the office.  As far who you should call first, always follow the instructions given to you by [Read more…] about How to Land a Temp to Permanent Job

Five Reasons to Become a Travel Nurse

September 24, 2012 by Allanah Canalija

Travel Nurse –

According to Wikipedia– Travel nursing is a nursing assignment concept that developed in response to the nursing shortage. This industry supplies nurses who travel to work in temporary nursing positions, mostly in hospitals.

Studies indicate that nursing needs will outpace the supply of nursing staff in the United States by over 250,000 registered nurses within the next twelve years. As a quarter of working RNs near retirement age, health care facilities are seeking creative ways to provide quality patient care. According to Industry Analysts, one way hospitals are filling nursing spots is by hiring traveling nurses. In fact, these on-the-go RNs make up approximately 20,000 current working nurses. Experts expect this trend to grow, due in part to great benefits for traveling nurses.

Make More Money

ATravel Nurseccording to Industry Analysts, travel nurses make more than equivalent RNs in permanent staff positions. Average hourly wages for traveling nurses range from approximately $22 to over $35. In addition to hourly pay, nurses may also be compensated in the form of housing, reimbursement for travel costs and standard employment benefits like health insurance and retirement plans.

Make Your Own Schedule

In many cases, travel nurses have more say regarding their schedule. They are not subject to mandatory shifts or overtime that are often forced upon permanent hospital staff. They can also provide preferences to their agency regarding how much and when they want to work. As with any nursing job, long hours and late nights may be required, but a travel nurse at least has a voice in these decisions.

Work Across America

Travel nurses can choose from numerous areas, working near beaches, mountains or big cities. The program can be a great way to see the country, gain new experiences and have adventures. Some nurses time their work with the seasons, hitting snowy mountains and ski areas during the winter, beach towns during the summer and rural areas for beautiful fall months.

Why Accounting Is A Safe Bet

September 21, 2012 by Jorgen Rex Olson

Accounting-

In today’s economy, many people are looking for college majors that will give them a good shot at employment when they graduate.  While many schools talk about the inherent value of an education, few students have the luxury of spending years at a private university exploring various arts degrees.  In actuality, most students need to spend as little time and money in school as possible, then take their degree and get a well-paying job.

If you happen to be in this situation, it might be time to consider a degree in accounting.  Accounting is a solidly growing career field, and it is projected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to have  190,700 new job openings from 2010 through 2020.  This degree is offered at a variety of colleges and universities, is relatively easy to obtain, and offers a relatively secure and easy path to a job after graduation.

An Education in Accounting

AccountingTo become an accountant generally requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Accounting degrees are offered at nearly every public college and university, as they are one of the most popular degree programs offered in America.  This makes it easy to find a program that is located near your work and home.  In addition, the popularity of the program makes it easy to transfer credits between schools.  Classes are offered by many schools at night and on weekends and are also available online.  This makes accounting an ideal program for anyone who needs to work while attending school, or who is unsure if they will have to move in the middle of their program.

Furthermore, accounting programs do not require a lot of prerequisites, class time, or background knowledge. While some basic math and reasoning ability is required, accounting programs do not require higher-level math or science skills.  This makes it a good program for people who have been out of an academic environment for a while to jump into. Top 5 Fields to Consider After MBBS

1) Cardiology

Cardiology, Stethoscope

If you go into cardiology after MBBS, your work will focus on disorders of the heart. You will diagnose and treat a range of congenital heart defects, including malfunctioning heart valves, heart rhythm problems, and abnormalities in the septum. You will also design rehabilitation programs after major cardiac events, and treat patients who are in heart failure. If cardiology and surgery appeal to you, then you can choose to become a cardiac surgeon, which will involve performing open heart surgery on the heart and the body’s major blood vessels. Now is an excellent time to go into cardiology or cardiac surgery, as recent advances include an inventive new method of freezing heart tissue that can cause rhythm disorders, as well as the exciting development of non-surgical valve replacement procedures.
