Ways to Impress Clients Who Visit Your Office Space

September 19, 2018 by Tim McMahon

Working in a nice office is great for your motivation and it’s something that’s going to keep you inspired and focused all day long. But what happens when someone pays you a visit – is your office really as amazing as you think it is? Different clients pay attention to different things and they’ll spot details that have passed you by, basing their impression of you strictly on your office. That’s why it has to be spotless, professional, comfortable and welcoming, as only this sort of space will tell your clients what kind of a businessperson you are from the moment they walk through the door.

Cluttered Desk

A cluttered desk is probably the worst thing that could welcome your clients and it’s definitely one of the worst ways to show that you’re professional, detail-oriented and meticulous about your work. Take care of the mess as soon as possible, organize your desk and remove all the things that aren’t absolutely necessary. A desk that’s almost empty is still better than a desk that’s full of papers, binders, office supplies and other junk you don’t really need. Opting for minimalism is the way to attract your clients’ attention and make them realize how trustworthy and reliable you are.

Proper Wall Colors

If you work for a company that uses its corporate colors on every wall in every office, there’s little you can do regarding the atmosphere in your office. If, however, you work in an office where you can introduce changes whenever you want or if you work from home, you can do wonders with the right choice of wall colors. Clients respond well to certain tones that make them peaceful and calm, so lots of offices all over the world are packed with different shades of beige, grey, yellow and even white. These colors are

How to Infuse Your Business with Staying Power

September 10, 2018 by Guest Contributor

Everyone starting a business hopes their business will succeed. But you need more than hope to start a successful business. According to the Small Business Association (SBA) 30% of new businesses fail during the first two years of being open, 50%  fail during the first five years and 66% fail during the first 10. One of the biggest causes of failure is being “undercapitalized” that means you don’t have enough money to live on while the company is getting started. Another is a lack of proper planning. Here are some steps that can greatly increase your chances of success.

Develop a Business Plan

There are a variety of resources available online to help you develop your business plan but it is essential that you do this before moving ahead to other steps. The Small Business Administration is a government agency that can help you get started. They offer assistance from retired business professionals at no cost to you.

They also offer a guide called “10 steps to start your business“.  The Guide includes information on how to:

  1. Conduct market research
  2. Write your business plan
  3. Fund your business
  4. Pick your business location
  5. Choose a business structure
  6. Choose your business name
  7. Register your business
  8. Get federal and state tax IDs
  9. Apply for licenses and permits
  10. Open a business bank account

Be Extremely Frugal During the Early Years

In an effort to fight the problem of under capitalization you should budget and cut costs at every opportunity. Even companies that receive massive injections of capital from Venture Capitalists need to watch their pennies. Often growing too fast can strain a company and actually cause it to fail because processes and procedures have not had a chance to develop and so the company just throws money at the problem which then becomes a cash drain.

Take Advantage of Social Networking

Modern businesses are the ones that do the best nowadays. They’re the businesses that understand the digital world in vivid detail. If you want people to depend on your business time and time again, you need to have an A+ social media presence. People trust businesses that are communicative and responsive. They appreciate businesses that take the time to keep up with advancements and developments, too.

4 Effective Ways to Promote Your Business

September 3, 2018 by Tim McMahon

Promote Your BusinessBuilding your own brand and making your company stand out from the competition might seem like an impossible task, especially if your business is just starting. However, this is certainly not impossible, and don’t forget that all major global companies once started as small business projects that had the right amount of drive, passion and marketing skills. So, if you too are looking for ways to promote your business at the moment, here are some ideas that might help you do that more effectively than ever.

1. Make a Website Already

Making a website used to be a hard, expensive and time-consuming task back in the day, but now it’s easier than ever. You literally just need a couple of dollars, a few good ideas and about fifteen minutes of your time, to get a basic website up and running. This is a vital part of your entire promotional strategy since websites are more important than people generally realize – from making a name for yourself to keeping track of your visitors, you can’t even start marketing your business without a proper website.

These days if you are a small business without a website many customers don’t even take you seriously. New customers no longer look in the “Yellow Pages” they look online once they’ve found you they might check out your ratings on a site like Yelp. Existing customers check your website for things like the hours you are open, your exact address, your phone number (although if you answer all of the Frequently Asked Questions on an FAQ page you won’t have to answer them on the phone over and over). You have created an FAQ page right? Don’t forget to submit your site to the search engines so they can start indexing your site.

A professional looking website allows you to easily connect with your clients and users and show them how much you appreciate their feedback. Then you can easily turn followers and subscribers into paying customers. Unfortunately, unless you are going for the “small shop” super personalized look, an amateurish looking website might actually do more harm than good. If you already have a website and it isn’t performing as well as you think it should you can contact the professionals at Design Synergy and get a website audit. As professional marketers, web designers and Social media managers, Design Synergy can help you tweak your site to present the image you want and help you expand your reach.

5 Tips for Starting Your Own Moving Company

December 5, 2017 by Tim McMahon

Starting up your own moving company can be a great way to make a good living and to finally work for yourself. However, to ensure your success, you have to make sure that you go about it the right way. These are a few tips that you can follow if you would like to start your own moving company.

Buy the Right Equipment and Supplies

First of all, you’ll need to make an investment in the right equipment and supplies. You should be able to get started with one moving truck, although you might want to expand your business and purchase more trucks later. Then, you’ll need appliance dollies to help with the heavy lifting and a nice stock of cardboard boxes and packing materials. However, if you are on a strict budget you can still get started without a truck. Simply sign up with companies like U-Haul to help people who have rented a truck load or unload. You will need to have a couple of strong helpers but you can get started with not much more than a moving dolly and a vehicle to get you to the jobsite. Become a U-Haul Service Provider.

6 Things to Consider When Your Business Expands

June 29, 2017 by Tim McMahon

When you are considering expanding your business – that is always a cause to celebrate. Sales might be doing well and you decide you need to find a bigger space so you can hire additional employees. So far so good. But, are you really ready for the expansion? The decision to extend the scope of your business must be a result of thoughtful consideration of various factors, including the financial, logistical, even your emotional readiness. Many successful small businesses have faltered or even failed because they expanded too quickly before they had worked out processes and procedures that were scalable. Forbes lists the following cautions when considering expansion.

  • Once you get to a certain sales range, above $5 million or so, it’s harder to keep track of your financials.
  • Unfortunately, more sales does not always equate to more profit.
  • Once a company is really growing quickly, the quality of the people you hire becomes a big issue.
  • When you’re growing quickly, it’s harder to be sure your customers are happy.
  • Fast growing companies often see their accounts receivable run faster than their sales or their ability to collect.

The rule of thumb is that you should only expand when there are untapped opportunities that can benefit your business. You need to think about the following points before embarking on business expansion: [Read more…] about 6 Things to Consider When Your Business Expands

Pros and Cons of Hiring a Business Consultant

February 25, 2017 by Guest Contributor

With the “Gig” economy booming, hiring outside consultants has become quite fashionable these days. Even smaller companies and startups are hiring them. However, are they worth the price? Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of hiring a business consultant, especially for a smaller venture.

Pros:

Business consultants offer many benefits to companies. Here are some of them:

Outside Expertise

Sometimes you need outside expertise that just can’t be found among your in-house employee pool. Perhaps you need a computer system or network upgrade and your staff just isn’t up to the job or they just don’t have the time. Rather than hiring a permanent IT guy it might be more cost effective and result in a better job if you hire a short-term consultant who will come in, do the job and not be an ongoing expense.

Specialization

One common reason to hire a business consultant is because [Read more…] about Pros and Cons of Hiring a Business Consultant

Lessons in Funding for Entrepreneurs

August 24, 2015 by Guest Contributor

Today’s entrepreneurs need to understand all aspects of their industry in order for their business to thrive. This includes financial funding as well as how to interact with investors and lenders that provide them with the early money and the ongoing cash flow support needed. Below is an analysis of some of the most important lessons gained by successful entrepreneurs who were able to find money when they most needed it.

Communicate Your Vision

Building Your Own Business

April 1, 2015 by Guest Contributor

Whenever the unemployment rate climbs people begin to get desperate and many think that this may be the time to strike out on their own (since they can’t find a job anyway). Unfortunately, a time when even experienced businesses are struggling and consumers are cutting back on their expenditures may not be the best time to start a new business…  unless it provides a way for people to actually save money. Some examples might be windshield repair, resume writing or a used clothing or used baby items store.

Business IdeaOf course, beginning a business pursuit on your own is never easy, but the advantage is that you are your own boss. Though this doesn’t mean you get to take off whenever you want. It usually means you get to work harder than anyone else.

Find Your Niche

One of the most important things in the early stages of your company is to focus. Pick one product, Idea or service, or one aspect and sell it. It’s much less of a risk, and turns out to be more profitable when you invest in [Read more…] about Building Your Own Business

Business to Business Sales Training

November 19, 2012 by Marie Into

Business to Business (B-2-B) Sales are Different

When we think of “sales”, we usually think of products moving from the manufacturer to the consumer. But before a consumer can buy the finished product many products move from one business to another with each business adding another piece to the puzzle. In business to business marketing, both the buyer and seller within the equation are companies rather than individuals. Sales will typically hinge on bottom-line considerations rather than on a fleeting desire for a product like an individual consumer might have. Here are some factors that makeup business to business marketing.

In B2B Goods and Services Are Still Exchanged

Business to Business Sales TrainingJust like in traditional marketing, the end goal of business to business marketing is to sell some kind of good or service. Examples of business to business marketing might include selling raw materials to a manufacturing company or even paper sales to a book publishing company. In both examples, every part of the equation is a business or organization. However, there is still a need to be met and an item or service that is bought or sold.

In Business to Business Sales Cycles are Extended

When a product like a pair of jeans or a new car is sold to a consumer, the cycle typically ends after the purchase. With business to business marketing, however, the cycle is much longer. Sales may be in monthly installments and the relationships that are formed may last years. If you are selling cotton to a clothing manufacturer, for example, your sales will not be a onetime deal. Instead, you will sell [Read more…] about Business to Business Sales Training
