New Careers in Workforce Management

September 7, 2021 by Tim McMahon

What is Workforce Management?

Workforce management (WFM) involves the efficient staffing, forecasting, scheduling, and real-time changes in personnel that a company needs. The goal of workforce management is to have the “right number of people, in the right location at the right time, doing the right work”.

With the right technology, processes, and procedures, you can successfully manage your staff for optimum performance and reduce labor costs. However, workforce management is an art as well as a science. It is more than just creating timetables; it is a highly automated procedure that provides you with the necessary information to make educated choices. WFM can be taught and continually built upon to provide consistently excellent outcomes, and there are many reasons why you should study it. Read on to find out more.

“right number of people, in the right location at the right time, doing the right work”.

The Workforce Is Changing

Obviously, the conventional workforce is undergoing significant change right now. The COVID-19 pandemic imposed the need for social distancing, which has hastened the acceptance of remote working. This will likely have a long-lasting impact on workforce organization and management in the coming years.

Over the last several years, the traditional nine-to-five workforce has been gradually replaced by more flexible employment schedules, including remote working. As a result, many workers may work from home, arrive early, or leave late, and essentially establish their own work hours to better fit their personal schedules.

As the workforce evolves, it will become more challenging to manage, especially if you need to manage employees, freelancers, and/or subcontractors. Thus staffing and scheduling are becoming more complicated than ever before. With all these considerations, businesses may consider hiring someone with a graduate certificate in distributed workforce management. [Read more…] about New Careers in Workforce Management

Military service can provide students with skills and opportunities that they wouldn’t have otherwise. It could be easy for them to get into a school after their service because they already have the experience and connections that are necessary for admissions.

After serving your country, you have two options. For some, military service is a way to become more independent and make a career for yourself. What to Know When Leaving Your Job

August 13, 2021 by Tim McMahon

Many people are unhappy with their jobs. It’s not that they don’t like their line of work; it’s just their workplace that upsets them. Sometimes, it’s the company atmosphere or coworkers, and, sometimes, it’s just the boss. Even if nothing is wrong with the company, sometimes you have to switch jobs every few years in order to get ahead.

Unless you are making very good career progress, your growth and learning can be limited when you continue working at the same place. Many companies would rather hire a new employee than give a raise to an existing team member.

Know Your Rights

The company is liable to offer you certain benefits even when you are leaving. Some are committed and some are not. You should know the agreements you had with the company when they hired you. You should know the difference between getting fired and resigning.

If the company fired you, even if with a notice, they will have to pay you a severance package. You might not get any benefits if you have resigned yourself because you are leaving them. If you’ve had a disagreement with your employer or HR department, to properly understand your rights and ensure you get what you deserve from the employer, consider getting the help of employment lawyers to guide you.

Here is an excellent video if you live in Canada:

How to Make Yourself More Employable

June 22, 2021 by Guest Contributor

Whether you are out of work or currently interested in applying for a different job, understanding how to make yourself more employable can be one of the best skills you can acquire. The process of finding a new job can be pretty demoralizing, especially if you keep getting turned down for positions you think you are perfect for. Understanding how to make yourself more attractive to recruiters can help you to more quickly and effectively land your dream job.

Never Stop Learning

One of the best things that you can do to make yourself more attractive to employers is for you to adopt the habit of continuous learning. If you are dedicated to learning more, you will stand out from the sea of other candidates. This is because you have different skills, knowledge, and experiences that other candidates for a position will not possess. Being dedicated to becoming a constant learner is easier now than ever before since you can now access a range of different courses via an online learning platform.

Do Your Research

Often people searching for a new job will be tempted to apply for as many positions as possible. This mindset is understandable; the more jobs you apply for, the greater the chance of getting hired. However, this approach can actually be damaging your employment prospects. This is because a recruiter can spot those who are sending off generic applications.

You should take the time to research the company and the position you are applying for. This might take a bit more time, but it is completely worth it. Doing your research enables you to show a potential employer how genuinely interested and passionate you are about the position.

June 21, 2021 by Tim McMahon

Being involved in a workplace injury or accident can be one of the most difficult experiences for a person to go through. Not only is it stressful emotionally and physically but a workplace injury often involves financial hardship as well. Although worker’s compensation claims help to relieve some of that financial hardship, the fact is that your employer and their insurance company are not on your side. Thus the following includes four major costs of job site injuries to make sure that you include within your claim.

Medical Bills

The most obvious recommendation a job site accident lawyer will give you is to make sure that you are seeking medical attention for your injuries. Not only are your medical documents needed to prove the severity of your accident, but your health should always come first before anything else. However, because of the complexity of healthcare, it can be easy to forget to add some major medical costs to your claim.

A Career as a Web Developer

June 7, 2021 by Guest Contributor

If you enjoy the creative process you might consider becoming a Web Developer/Designer. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), “web developers create and maintain websites and test website or interface layout, functions, and navigation for usability”. Some web developers work in the computer systems design and related services industry. Others are self-employed… many work from home.

Educational requirements for web developers and digital designers vary, ranging from a high school diploma to a bachelor’s degree. But the important point is having the skills necessary and not necessarily a certain educational path. The BLS says the median annual wage for web developers and digital designers was $77,200 in May 2020. Employment of web developers and digital designers is projected to grow 8 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will be driven by the continued popularity of mobile devices and e-Commerce.

One of the key factors in web design these days is creating a “responsive format”. Responsive Web Design is about using HTML and CSS to automatically resize a website automatically so that it looks good on all devices ( i.e. desktops, tablets, and phones).

A Brief Overview of Responsive Design

Responsive Design works on the premise that online content should scale to the user’s screen – no matter how small or large. [Read more…] about A Career as a Web Developer
