How to Remain Productive During Your Time out of Work

May 20, 2019 by Tim McMahon

Whether you chose to leave your job or you were forced out, while you’re out of work, it’s likely that your productivity level will drop at some point or another. If you do find yourself suffering from this plight, fear not, as this is just your natural reaction to your day-to-day schedule undergoing such a drastic change. If your separation from your previous employer was involuntary then it is likely that you will suffer from depression as well, which will sap your energy and make it even more difficult to get your career back on track. No matter how big the motivation may be to stay in bed all day, don’t give in to this temptation. If you do, before long, you’ll find yourself falling behind the pace in your career.

Instead, you should seek to remain busy, productive and have a positive attitude, while you are unemployed. Remember this is an opportunity to change your life for the better. Here are a few things you can do to ensure this is the case:

Claim Whatever Money You Are Owed

It’s a lot easier to remain productive when you have some money in your pocket, even if it’s not the amount of money you are used to having at your disposal.

For one, having some cash to fall back on will allow you to venture wherever you need to go in your quest to get a job — you won’t need to worry about financial issues holding you back from attending interviews over the other side of town, for instance. With money in your pocket, you’ll also be able to invest in yourself by enrolling in courses that will better your chances of landing a job going forward.

No matter your reason for leaving your last employment, you will be owed money from somewhere. The money that you are owed isn’t going to fall into your lap, though. It might be yours by right, but you’re still going to have to go out of your way to claim it. Whether it’s the state unemployed benefit that you make use of or compensation for having to leave your job, you have to go out there and ensure that you get it.

With regards to the latter, sometimes claiming monetary compensation after being forced to take time off work due to an incident that wasn’t your fault, will require you to align yourself with a lawyer that can fight your specific case for you. When you are working with a company representative, Attorney Timothy J Ryan & Associates says “keep in mind that their main job is to save their employer as much money as possible. They work with you to determine the amount it will cost in order to settle your case for as little as possible while avoiding any future legal issues, not to give you the amount that you are legally entitled to. Hiring an attorney is the best way to work through these negotiations with a clear idea of your rights.”

Create And Stick To A Schedule

Without the motivation of a paycheck there to drag you out of bed in a morning, it can be incredibly difficult to stick to a healthy and fulling schedule while you’re unemployed. If you want to remain productive during this time, though, you’re going to need to create and then stick to your own schedule. This could simply mean agreeing to take the kids to school just so you get up every morning — whatever you need to do to get you up and moving throughout the duration of each day, do it.

Learn A New Skill

As a way of improving your chances of landing yourself your dream job, you might want to consider learning a new skill.. Broadening your skill set will get you up to date with the demands of the day, which will ultimately make you out to be more of an appealing application to potential employers.

If you take the above advice and remain productive while you’re out of work, you’ll find yourself employed again in no time.
