Best Side Hustles of 2019

July 2, 2019 by Tim McMahon

Changing careers is a risky business. But with unemployment rates at the lowest levels since 1969 finding a new job should be easier. However, if you’d like a little bit of insurance against the unexpected you might want to pick up a little “side hustle” cash to tide you through the transition. Or perhaps you are a stay at home mom and would like to pick up some extra cash.  Here are some tips so you can make money from home.

Do Surveys

You may be wondering, why would you want to do something so completely boring and low-paying? However, not all surveys pay ridiculously low rates. Some can pay as much as $75. Look up good survey platforms and keep an eye out for surveys that match your experience and interests.

Play or Create Games

Believe it or not, this is a good way to make money. You can work with user Testing, which pays people to test out games and record their thoughts. That is a pretty exciting new way to make some money. You can make money and have fun while still feeling like a hardworking person.

If you have an idea for a business but don’t have the capital to get started you might consider crowdfunding. Crowdfunding is simply raising money online by giving a pitch and giving people an opportunity to support your work through pre-ordering, donations and other things. Just make sure you’re in line with best practices crowdfunding! Treat people correctly, and they will recommend that other people get involved in your business.

Start a Craft Business

Using Etsy or another platform, you can finally begin to monetize your hobbies. Don’t hold your breath on this one, as it often takes a long time to build a good Etsy business, but it is another option you can consider for helping you during your career transition.

As you can see, there are plenty of options. The main thing is to set aside time to build your side business. If you like to watch TV, try either making some crafts while you watch or playing a game for cash. This way, you can keep earning even during your rest times.

Rent out your Stuff

Everyone is familiar with AirBnB which allows you to rent out a spare room,  Granny Pod, or even your RV or houseboat. But did you know there are also companies that let you rent out your car?

Driving Jobs

If you don’t feel comfortable letting someone else drive your car you can drive them with either Uber or Lyft. You can also shop for people and deliver their groceries. My daughter Katie has delivered groceries for Shipt and says she has made $20/hour plus tips. If you’d like to sign up she’d appreciate your using her referral code (Referral Code: D2BBBE) since there is a bonus for getting other people to sign up. So if you know a lot of people this is another way to earn a little extra income.

Teaching English

Katie also teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) through a company called Whale’s English which is one of the best paid ESL companies out there. Here is her link for signing up.

User Testing

Get paid to use websites and apps and give your honest feedback! You will be paid $10 for each test you take. A typical test lasts approximately 20 minutes. What does a usability test consist of? A video featuring your screen and voice as you use a website or app. Your written responses to a short wrap-up survey. Become a TryMyUI tester. Or Usertesting.com
