Three Ways You Can Market Your Freelance Business

July 1, 2020 by Tim McMahon

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has led a lot of people to reconsider their work lives. You might have decided to make the leap to a freelance career, eventually establishing your own business, either by necessity if you have been furloughed from your previous role, or turning the pandemic into an opportunity to build a passion project into a career. Either way, one of the main challenges in building a successful freelance business is marketing yourself and the services you offer. The idea of marketing might sound complicated and leave you feeling overwhelmed, but there are several easy steps you can take to increase your profile. Here are three ways you can market your freelance business.

Schedule Social Media Posts

Perhaps the simplest, and cheapest, way to market your business online is by having a business page on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. And regularly posting content that is relevant to your business. You could, for instance, advertise upcoming products and perhaps sales, or give your customers a sneak peak of your business behind-the-scenes. Social media is a great way to build a connection with your customer base and directly answer any questions they may have about your products or services.

If the thought of spending hours a day on social media fills you with dread, an app such as hootsuite.com lets you schedule when social media posts go live, so that you only need to dedicate maybe an afternoon a week to plan your social media output for the following week.

Engage with bloggers

Bloggers and online influencers have a huge power over people’s movements online. With followers and subscribers often in the thousands (the best over a million), a tweet or a review will ensure that your products and services will be seen by people from all over the world who, with the endorsement of a trusted blogger, will be sure to turn those views into sales. You could contact an influencer with the view to collaborating with them, such as sending them products to try out and review, or perhaps writing a guest blog post. If you are daunted by the prospect of writing a blog post to promote your business, a content writing service such as Click Intelligence will engage professional writers to produce relevant and interesting blog posts for your business and influencer-collaborator.

Buy online ad space

Another easy way to get word of your business out there is to purchase online ad space, which is available to suit every need and budget. For instance, if you choose to buy Facebook ads for your business, you can decide where to run your ad – country of IP address, and age, gender and interests of the user – to ensure that it is seen by your target demographic. You will also be able to manage your ad, allowing you to analyze how successful it has been and what should be tweaked if you decide to buy more Facebook ad space in the future.
