How Military Service Can Set You up for a Good Education/Career

August 19, 2021 by Tim McMahon

Military service usually lasts more than two years, which will put you in a good position to apply to schools. Military service can provide students with skills and opportunities that they wouldn’t have otherwise. It could be easy for them to get into a school after their service because they already have the experience and connections that are necessary for admissions.

Benefits of Joining the Military

Military service often means leaving home and moving away from family members, friends, and other personal supports that may not be easily replaced elsewhere. After serving your country, you have two options. For some, military service is a way to become more independent and make a career for yourself. Others become officers in order to continue to serve their country. In short, there are many opportunities that can help you with your current financial situation.

How Military Service Can Set You up for a Good Education-Career

Acquiring a Military Education

Online colleges for military education are not just a means to help students get into a good university or college. They are also an important step in the process of preparing and teaching military personnel. These online schools can be both civilian and military-affiliated. They provide courses that cater to the specific needs of different branches like engineers, doctors, and lawyers. These schools also provide courses in multiple languages as well as target specific areas, such as business administration or aviation.

Military Tuition Assistance

Military tuition assistance can cover 100 percent of the cost of undergraduate tuition. This financial benefit may vary depending on the branch of service you join.  If you are an active duty or retired military member, you may also be eligible for a GI Bill® education benefit. This benefit can help you earn credits towards your degree through online courses or in a hybrid format. The Air Force currently pays 100 percent of tuition, up to $250 per semester hour and $166 quarter-hour ($4,500 annually), in off-duty courses with accredited schools that have signed the Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding in pursuit of approved degree programs.

Marines must apply for Marine Corps Tuition Assistance (TA).  Contact your Marine Corps Voluntary Education Center to receive educational counseling either in person or by phone. The Navy Tuition Assistance Program (TA) pays up to 100% of tuition and required fees for taking college courses while on active duty.

A Degree Combined with Military Service Can Open Doors

With the rise of new technologies and automation, there is a greater need for people with military experience and higher education degrees. This is because they provide skills that are in demand and offer careers in fields that are growing rapidly.

A degree has numerous benefits for the future of individual and career development. It provides you with higher pay and better job opportunities; it leads to more opportunities available to you later on in life; it provides an opportunity to explore a variety of subjects; it also opens doors to internships, technical work opportunities, and apprenticeships.

The military provides opportunities for you to learn about different cultures and languages while serving your country. Military service can also be a great way to get more money for college. It provides a chance to gain skills that are in demand, which is important when you’re applying for jobs after college
