There are hundreds of job titles out there, but many are specific only to a certain field or industry. There are some, however, that are needed in every single company. Here are some of the most common and how you can get hired to these positions.
Accountants
Every company needs accountants to keep their financial records in order, send invoices to their clients, pay their bills on time and handle their tax filings. To become an accountant, you will need a degree in accounting. Earning a Certified Public Accountant designation can increase job prospects. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage for accountants and auditors was $70,500 in May 2018.
Human Resources
Human resources professionals are needed in every business organization as well, especially as they grow. Almost every company has employees and therefore needs professionals to manage them. You can become a human resource professional with a bachelor’s degree. You will need to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage the hiring process and more. Applicants must usually have a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field. However, the level of education and experience required varies by position and employer. The median annual wage for human resources specialists was $60,880 in May 2018.
IT Professionals
A company’s technology is now critical to its regular operations. For this reason, businesses need information technology professionals to maintain, manage, troubleshoot and upgrade their technology, as well as provide advice to executives on technological subjects. A degree in computer science or information technology is needed to land an IT role. You may be put through a technical interview, where you will need to prove your ability to use and manage tech, or undergo cyber intelligence training. According to the BLS there are a variety of Computer and Information Technology Occupations.
Marketers
Without a strong marketing strategy to appeal to customers and sell their products, companies won’t remain in business. They hire marketers to create and carry out marketing plans, develop marketing materials, direct market research studies and more. Some jobs, especially in management, may require a master’s degree. Proving an understanding of the market and prior successes will be beneficial.
Customer Service Representatives
Providing good customer service experience is one of the main ways a company not only stays in business but becomes successful. Becoming a customer service representative is relatively easy too: you can often get this role with a high school diploma. You must enjoy working with people to solve their problems and show strong empathy. It is even possible to work from home, so long as you have a phone line, Internet connection or both.
Some roles are needed in every company, which means there are plenty of jobs available in these areas. You will still need to be qualified and impress during the hiring process, however. If any of these positions appeal to you, consider applying for them.
